Tirzepatide (Mounjaro) for managing overweight and obesity

Primary care (GP practices) is not currently allowed to initiate the prescribing of Tirzepatide (Mounjaro) for the management of obesity. This is only available to eligible patients who are referred to a weight management service. Following specialist advice your GP can continue prescribing.
We are currently expecting an update on how to access newly commissioned obesity services across our region by September 2025.
We cannot prescribe treatment initiated by any private provider even if you are within the defined eligibility criteria.
